My specialty (apart from being a badass wifey) is making music videos. All right, I’m not the best, but I can take clips and put music behind them with more skill than the average Jane. It’s relatively easy and definitely something you can do! If it is Valentine’s Day, his birthday, or any special occasion, just pick a song that makes sense and roll with it! If you’ve been reading my blog, you know that I planned a whole shindig for my husband’s 22nd birthday focused around Taylor Swift’s song “22“. Part of this birthday included contacting his friends and family to put together a music video to the song. So here are some simple steps to creating a Badass video for your husband:
1. Rally the troops. This may be your hardest task. Contact friends and family MONTHS prior and send them reminders. Tell them the deadline is a week prior to the day to ensure it’ll all be put together on time. Here is what I sent out to people:
Hello! If you are reading this, it probably means you know and love insert your husband’s name here. You have been chosen to partake in his SECRET SURPRISE insert occasion here present. Please notice the words “secret” and “surprise” for you have been chosen because you know and love insert your husband’s name here, but also because you can be trusted to keep this on the down-low until insert date of occasion. So this is basically what I’m looking to obtain from you ideally before insert date one week before occasion: A video of you singing/lip syncing to insert name of song here
a. You do not have to do the whole song if you do not want to, as I will be choosing bits and pieces of everyone’s video to include in the final collage of videos anyway. If you just send a clip, then that makes the decision for me. But please send more than that because if everyone just sends the first line, then I’m going to be stuck. So AT LEAST do the chorus, as there are several of those lines I can utilize.
b. If you are capturing your video via smartphone, please make sure you are filming in HORIZONTAL. If you film it vertical it will be all small and messed up in the final product.
c. Don’t be scurred to team up with another friend or animal! Or wear a costume!
d. Be creative!! This song is fun and there are plenty of fun lines to work off of: insert lyrics here
2. Compile the video. Arrange the clips in the correct order of the song. This takes some editing skills. Personally, I keep the video clip sound in while trying to line up the words in the clips to the words in the song file that I will also drag into iMovie. Then I’ll take the audio out of the clips so it’s just the nice clean sound of the music file.
3. Reveal. Show your honey the amazing effort you’ve put into his special day! He is bound to be impressed by your ability to round up his loved ones and put together such a creative gift for him. Additionally, if you share it online your friends and family will also compliment your Badass-ery.
Here was my final product: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qk8xRascBvc
I know the technology part of it is probably the most difficult part for some of you, but if you have any questions, feel free to leave them down below or just Google them! I used iMovie to put it together, but any standard video editing program that typically comes with your computer will work.
Good luck with yours!
