It was 2006 when I came to the realization that men are dogs.
This may be offensive to some, but go with it for a moment…
Dogs are easily excitable. As long as you keep their interest, they will remain stupidly happy with their tongues hanging out and their tail wagging back and forth. If you stop throwing the ball for them to go fetch they could either come stare at you waiting for you to continue the game or they could just go lay down and lick themselves. Unless! If another person comes along and picks up that ball, their interest is going to shift to that person who is continuing the game they so single-mindedly love.
Apply this to men. The ball is what they are attracted to. Maybe when you were dating or engaged or even newlywed, you would plan cute dates and send him flirty text messages. Life was exciting and you weren’t stuck in a rut often achieved after months of married life where now being together is at the sweatpants and farting level. If you “drop the ball”, it might not take much for your man’s eyes to see another ball whether it’s in the form of a stripper who is flirting with him for business or a girl who sparks up conversation about his favorite video game. Either way, these two women are surpassing you right now as you sit at home watching Netflix or are away on a business trip. They are throwing a ball that is not in sweatpants or farting and he is so eager to chase it.
Men like to chase.
So give him something to chase. Show him you’re all he needs and there isn’t possibly someone out there who could be more badass than you.
This starts with first convincing yourself that there isn’t possibly someone out there who could be more badass than you. So either get over whatever insecurities you might have or fix them.
I have infinite ideas of how to keep the ball in my hand and keep my husband's tail wagging (if you know what I mean). This blog is to keep records of these ideas and to teach those who may benefit from them how to PLAY BALL!
Disclaimer: This isn’t all about him. You need to build confidence in yourself for yourself. Often times the badass things you do for your husband will be fun and exciting for yourself and the relationship as a whole. Additionally, once you start putting creative efforts into the relationship, your man may just catch on and mimic the gestures. Monkey see, Monkey do as you will read in the next chapter “Men Are Monkeys” 😉
